A Taste for Fashion? – Free Online Course with Certification from University Bocconi

Have you ever wondered just what the difference between fashion and luxury was? How fashion houses are built? Why Europe is still the ‘home’ of fashion? How a retail supply chain works? What faces the future of the fashion industry with the rise of Asia? Why designers are celebrities? Why today’s youth have a totally different attitude to fashion than so many generations before them?

Coursera – the wonderful free online learning platform – has added a new free course from University Bocconi, Milan, called Managing Fashion and Luxury Companies.  This is my 3rd course on Coursera – which covers an expanse of free courses from Algebra to Zurich, all developed, delivered and curated by enthusiastic and forward-thinking professors of some of the top universities (Princeton, Brown and Berklee are included amongst some of those partners). And I have to say the standard of this particular course is really high. You can tell the lecturers have really thought about the digital format. And they’re being totally innovating by using social media as a learning tool – so far running activities and sharing content via Instagram and Pinterest (the natural fashion social media companions of course).

Aside from creating great new ways to learn, in (reasonably your own time), and just how much I obviously love the topic, the courses build a great sense of community. Despite being global, despite people being from every background imaginable (from unemployed blogging teens to MBA holders in the retail industry), despite different ages, different nationalities and even having different goals… there is a sense of, I don’t know… positive camaraderie.

The course is just 5 weeks long and started on October 3rd but you can still join up and join in if you hurry.
